Contextual Fit

Objective
The goal is to add original elements to the design of Richard Meier's Smith House that contextually fits his original design.

Narrative
Terrance and Christine Akams have recently purchased The Smith House in Connecticut at the Long Island Sound. They are a family of five including their three kids and are seeking assistance from our firm in revamping their new estate, to meet their lifestyle. This is a family of avid gamers and developers. Since they were kids, Terrance and Christine have always dreamed of living in a home that expressed their passion for gaming as vividly as they had imagined. So, a room solely dedicated to video game culture is essential. Their kids are also growing to love gaming as much as they do. They would like a large entertainment space, a master suite, a guest bedroom, and a couple of kids rooms, as well as a kids play area. They also love to watch movies as well, and so would like a mini movie theater room devoted to movie night with their friends. Entertaining their guests is a big facet of their lives, especially on game night and movie night. Overall, they need enough space to live comfortably year-round, while preserving the architectural integrity of the house as it was originally
